PERFORMANCE

Shunt trucks commonly have the Cummins QSB6.7 Diesel Engine, and that offers 142 kilowatts of power. The Terberg electric shunt truck has a 200 kilowatt ZF electric drive motor. Even with a fully loaded B train, we don’t see the engine utilizing more than 116 kilowatts of power. That’s roughly 60% of its raw capabilities. The stronger the drive motor, the less it will struggle throughout the day.

SAFETY

Now the Terberg uses electronically controlled brakes, meaning the system detects the speed of each wheel and then independently applies the brakes. Not only does this increase the reaction time, it also greatly reduces brake wear and lowers the chance of rollover at higher speeds.

It is easy for the operator to maneuver on the operator platform. Even when the operating conditions are poor in B.C. weather, an operator can get back here and comfortably unhook and hook brake lines without the fear of tripping or slipping.
